Now we have entered 2025 it is important for us all to reflect upon our
values and intentions for the upcoming year, whether it be health, strength
or self-care, we need to make sure we align our fitness goals accordingly.
Here are three tips for self-reflection in health, fitness and fat loss:
1. Assess Your Current Habits and Patterns
How to Reflect: Keep a journal or track your habits over a week to
identify patterns. Note when you eat, what you eat, how you feel
during workouts, and your energy levels throughout the day.
Key Questions to Ask Yourself: What are my current strengths?
What habits are holding me back?
Moving Forward: Set a specific area for improvement. For example, if
overeating at night is an issue, aim to plan and prep balanced dinners
to curb hunger later.
2. Evaluate Progress Objectively, Not Emotionally
How to Reflect: Look at measurable data such as weight, body
measurements, workout performance (e.g. heavier lifts or faster
runs) and non-scale victories (e.g. better sleep or improved stamina).
Key Questions to Ask Yourself: What progress have I made so far?
Have I been consistent with habits that align with my goals?
Moving Forward: Adjust your approach based on the data. If weight
loss has plateaued, consider tweaking calorie intake or diversifying
your workouts.
3. Revisit and Refine Your Goals Regularly
How to Reflect: Sit down monthly to review your goals. Are they
realistic? Are they still meaningful to you?
Key Questions to Ask Yourself: Are my goals too ambitious or too
easy? Do I still feel motivated by my goals or do I need a new
perspective?
Moving Forward: Break big goals down into actionable steps. For
example, instead of "lose 20 pounds", focus on smaller goals like,
"lose 5 pounds in the next month" or "exercise 4 times a week".
